AT A FEW KM:
Marina di Camerota and Baia Infreschi
Just a few km from Palinuro, Marina di Camerota lies on an arc of coastline between the
olive trees of Saracen epoch, set between two small hills topped by towers.
At the center of town there is a square with the church but is followed by the first fishermen's
houses arranged symmetrically, while the modern houses have come up in the second half of the century.
The coastline is dotted with caves and inlets, among which we cannot forget the area of "Infreschi",
a cave so large that can be visited by small boats, in which the water that flows from submarine springs,
is always clear and fresh. |

Archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia-Elea
At about half an hour - one hour drive from Palinuro can be visited two of the
most important archaeological sites in southern Italy and the Interior Magna Graecia.
Paestum: Cities of Magna Graecia founded in the late seventh
century BC by Greek colonists from Sybaris. Its territory is still surrounded by Greek walls,
as amended in Roman era. Particularly important are the three great temples, two of the Doric order,
and a Doric and Ionic, which constitute some of the best examples of these styles.
Velia - Elea: The city Elea was founded in 545 BC by the Phoceans, who came
here after escaping from Ionia to escape the military pressure. Among the reasons why Velia is
considered a World Heritage Site is the Eleatic school, a school of philosophy that could boast
among its exponents, Parmenides, Zeno of Elea, Melissus of Samos and Xenophanes of Colophon.
Of great architectural importance is the "Porta Rosa" which is the oldest example
of a round arch in Italy.
